Sorry for not writing a post for a while. Back with some deep stuff I guess…

Do you reflect? Reflect on what you do? How’s your day been? Where you are heading?

When I was little, my mum taught me to reflect every night before I go to sleep. Consider what I have and haven’t done well! Sometime I have to admit that looking back can be painful. I would rather look forward only. But you cannot really go forward without looking back, as your baggage becomes heavier and heavier.

One must learn about how ones behave today to correct ones behaviour tomorrow.

Reflecting is like facing your demons. I am human and make a lot of mistakes. Do I go over every mistake and learn from them? Probably not, but I try to. There are good days and there are bad days. But as long as you are honest with yourself then you can really clear your mind burdens.

Reflecting helps me, and gives me strength to get up the next day, do the things I do well and tackle the things I don’t do well. It is not all above criticising either, sometime it is also very positives. I can be jumping up and down before I go to sleep, because I have done something I am proud off. Give yourself a pat on the back!

You answer to no one, you answer to yourself. Why would you let other people judge you when you can be your own judge?

Checkout Thinking

We make decisions all day everyday, even at the supermarket.

I want to pick the decision about which checkout queue you should join.

Operator is a factor. Is he or she young, old, male or female? I would prefer someone young quiet and just efficient. Some of them are too talkative and SLOW the process down.

Number of people in the queue, obviously you want to join a shorter queue. The actual transaction takes the longest, so number of people in the queue equal number of transactions.

But actually is the product sum of the number of people and number of items. Because there might be one people in the queue but he/she has got a big trolley full. This queue will be considerable slower than One queue of 3 people with 3 baskets full. But this rule doesn’t work if  there are 10 people in the queue with just 5 items each compared with 1 people with 50 items. This is because 10 credit card transactions will probably take considerably longer. So there is an optimum here.

Another one is the estimated packing speed of the people in front of you.

So

Supermarket Checkout Queue time = f (Operator Efficiency, Number of People(transactions) in Queue, Number of Items per person in Queue, Packing speed per person in Queue)

One interesting thing is while you have joined a queue, do you then think the next queue is always quicker?

The thinking process here demonstrates “Intelligence Resource Methodology”. It is about breaking down a  problem into multiple of smaller factors. Highlighting the critical factor and making the best decision with the information (intelligence)

Fusionist

It is the word I am taking out this moment. Fusion in my dictionary can mean many things. It is normally mixing things together (mostly good things). I am also going use it for a mixture of good skills.

It is a dish too, a curry pot or a casserole of good things.

Anyway, it is a mixture of good things. Like people a mixture of good skills, a mixture of good knowledge.

What I can see of this world is the slowly decline of FUSION people. This generation of the work force is becoming a procedure follower, a systemic machine.

Without the fusion of knowledge and skills, it is very difficult to be inspired, to be creative. People are becoming dull.

Am I saying that to be talented you need to have the openess to accept fusion? Yes.

Mix experience around from different situation and combine to form super experience.

I am on a journey to build a catalog of human profile, certainly a fusionist will exist amongst a list of many.

Fusionist – Generally described as open person with a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide range of subjects and topics. A fusionist is always interested in new things and demonstrate a steak of talent.

Cleverness?

How clever are you? Well it is very difficult to tell.

um I am more clever than so and so.

um but I am not stupid.

How can you tell?

Does being clever mean you have a higher IQ?

Not necessarily. But most likely.

Where is the border line between stupid and clever?

Can you learn to be more clever, developed to be smarter and most of all avoid being stupid.

I believe that my Intelligence Resource Methodology is here to help. It is a structured mind set that generate ArtificialIntelligence to help us become more smarter. I don’t think you can be more clever but more smarter will compensate for that.

Moving ON

There is always a time to look to move on. Whether it is a task, a project, a tool, a thought, a feeling, a job and a person.

There is simply no more time, and actually you are dwelling on it.

I call this the dwelling factor. It is a negative factor.

In my Intelligence Resource Methodology,

Gain or Loss = f ( Timing, Location Advantage, People Relationship )

Dwelling on things would have a negative effect on all 3.

wasting and losing time, staying too long and let other gain location advantage, existing relationship become tired and not forming new relationship.

Positive change cannot come about while dwelling.

Dwelling on thing any longer, it will become a negative change. It is going backwards.

Act efficiently, don’t dwell on things.

Service Discount

Do you go to somewhere with good service?

Yes, but do you buy service no?

You go out there are buy a product. In retail, people say service is very very important. Customer is always right and all that. Don’t upset the customer etc etc.

What is the price of service? When you paid for your satellite TV, broadband connection. How much goes to service that you might not need? (Obviously you are expecting 100% service and 0% problem) should we assume this at the start?

Service is significant in a normally human to human contact. Shopping at supermarket is an example of this. The TV/broadband example is one that with minimal contact. There is clearly a balance between desired service, expected service, free service and paid service. We all think that the desired service is the expected service and it should be free!

How about me working in consultancy? Only service and no product. The product you get is our service. It is one that is difficult price up. What is the right price and what is good value? It is really market equilibrium that levels the price. OK how come there is no price war?

For a product, say a can of beans. It is on sale for 30p. The margin is 15p. So I can make less money and drive competition down and offer sale at 20p. This happen all the time, clearing stock, increasing volume sale, taking market share and also building the brand.

Why consultancy don’t have special offer or discount? Even at this time!

Taking market share, driving competitors out.

Even recently HSBC, a bank has join in at the January sale. It is all promotion. The same service but cheaper!

In consultancy, you would never reduce the fee rate. The fee rate can only go up. May be in period of time like now, even consultancy should give customer discount! (we can increase the rate then bring it back down, I didn’t say the discount should be real!)

Chance, Risk, Reward

In my last post, I was talking about taking a bet on. The fact is that I was taking a chance. In my eyes, it was to my favour. I estimated it was more like 65:35 ish.

Everyone has a different sense on risk. Someone will always go for a 50:50, but some would be more cautious and wait for 80:20s.

In the game of Texas Hold’em poker, this is clearly demonstrated, and even force win from 80:20 down.

Any good poker play will be able to calculate the ODDS (chance), the BET (risk) and the POT (reward).

The chance and the risk are different. You might a small chance to win but the risk is low, and you might decide to go for it. There are load of scenarios and there is also a missing factor Confidence.

Sometime confidence can become arrogrant and confusingly allow someone to think the Chance has increased.

Should we assess our chance, our risk and reward every time we make a decision.

The opposite to Confidence is Nervous and Panic. We all know that this will have a negative effect.

What if we block out all emotion. So turning off emotional integellience and do we actually make a better decision or deliver bette result. But without emotions, we would just be a computer.

On the other hand, can we use confidence to overturn risk into chance.

also when you in nervous or panic mode, does the body release more adrenaline to help you flight. Turn on the turbo so to speed.

Whatever situation, calm head is needed and I would suggest you try to not react and cut out all the emotion. See what happens!

Road Block and 3 ways

When your Road is block? How do you deal with it?

  1. Go straight on and crush the block.
  2. Turn Back
  3. Use alternative routes or bypass block

What happens if the block to moving towards you.

Would you still?

  1. Go straight on and crush the block even thought the expected impact is higher.
  2. Turn Back and Run away
  3. Use alternative routes or bypass block, shimmy pass the block

Which is the clever way?

Well it is of course dependent on the situation, you and the specification of the block!

For example:

IT is planning to block internet access to non-work related website.

  1. To go head to head and flight the ban
  2. Stop visiting those sites and compile to IT’s demand
  3. Find a way to bypass firewall, use other means of connecting to the internet

I would always choose 3, not because I always bend rules, it is becuase I believe their is another way and nothing stop my train. It is always going forward, even if I have to take a side step.

This is not helping the IT, because it seem like I am compiling but actually I have move myself outside of their system.

I am going call this tool simply as “3 ways” under Intelligence Resource.
